Eleven perfect minutes. Then the wind, the ex, and one brave shopping bag.

wore the new set out. felt like a renaissance painting for eleven minutes.
what happened at minute twelve?
wind. a gust with a personal vendetta. it had clearly been briefed.
witnesses?
my ex. obviously. the universe keeps him on retainer for exactly these moments.
did you stay composed?
i held a shopping bag in front of me for four blocks like a tiny leather bodyguard.
strategic. dignified. almost.
did he say anything?
he waved. i waved. we both pretended the wind incident was classified information. very diplomatic of us.
treat yourself, they said. nobody mentioned the weather had opinions.
i'd wear it again. with a coat. and a wind forecast. and possibly a decoy route.
still main character energy. the genre was just comedy, not romance.
